CHARLI COHEN trained in London as a fashion designer and as a personal trainer. Bridging the gap between performance activewear and ready-to-wear fashion, her eponymous, British brand is born out of her knowledge of these two passions: fashion and women’s fitness. Fusing luxury, technology and futuristic edginess, the brand is synonymous with clever, body-sculpting cuts and contemporary fashion design. 

 

Hey Charli!

What’s the idea behind the Charli Cohen brand? 

My aim with Charli Cohen is to strike the perfect 50/50 balance between performance and style. I won’t compromise one for the other, which means that my pieces cost more to make than typical activewear brands due to the super-innovative fabrics and construction techniques. I need to elevate every piece beyond traditional activewear, in terms of design as well as quality and functionality. The end result is clothing that works just as well in the gym as it does styled with a great coat and heels!

Where does the inspiration for your collections come from? 

It varies a lot! Movement and physiology is always a factor, but beyond that, it could be the architecture of a new city I’m exploring, an image I’ve found, an old book or comic – it depends what my environment is at the time.

What’s next for Charli Cohen? 

We’re already planning our shows for London and New York fashion week in September, which is super exciting! We’re also finally going to be launching our own online store later this year!

What’s been the high point of your career so far? 

We had our first catwalk show at London Fashion Week last February, where we put prominent fitness bloggers down the runway to showcase the new collection and make a statement about healthy role models. We only had three weeks to pull it together and somehow managed to pull it off – the response was amazing and I can’t wait to do the next one in September!

How often do you work out / what’s your favourite way to stay in shape? 

I train 3-4 days a week with heavy weights and a bit of boxing, then walk as much as possible daily – in London it’s often quicker than public transport anyway!

What’s your top beauty tip? 

SPF, always! Whatever the season I’m never outside without at least an SPF15 moisturiser on my face.
